Baked Crab Dip Served with Bell Peppers | The Best Low Carb Appetizer
/Maryland style cream cheese crab dip is an easy keto appetizer and trust me, the best crab dip recipes come from nowhere other than Maryland. I prefer my crab dip served hot but you can also serve this as a cold crab dip recipe.
How to make Maryland Style Crab dip with Cream Cheese
This crap dip recipe is defiantly one of my favorite Ketogenic recipes that I’ve ever tried. It’s a simple recipe yet delicious served hot or as a cold crab spread with some fresh cut rainbow bell peppers to add a little crunch and even more flavor.
The Old Bay seasoning is a Maryland thing, which is where I was born and raised, but I didn’t realize until I moved away that not everyone puts old bay on just about everything! Its blend of herbs and spices, mainly used as a seafood seasoning. It adds the best flavor to this Keto crab dip recipe and gives it a little kick too!
Most crab dips call for mayonnaise, but it thins out the dip and I dunno about you, but I prefer a thick dip with fewer fillers and more crab meat!
The recipe for crab dip with cream cheese is super easy to follow. You combine all the ingredients except for the mozzarella cheese and blend until well combined.
Then you’ll transfer the mixture to a baking dish and use a spatula to spread it out evenly. Bake the crab dip at 350 F for about 30 minutes.
Once you remove it from the oven, you’ll top it with the mozzarella cheese, more old bay, and scallions.
Finally, broil it for just a few minutes until the top is golden brown, which won’t take long so keep your eye on it to avoid burning the cheese.
Is it ok to use Canned Lump Crabmeat?
I prefer using fresh crab meat when possible ( I mean who wouldn’t), but we have also used canned crab from the seafood section at our local grocery store, which still tasted just as great. Just be sure you drain the can before adding it in.
Can you make an easy crab dip ahead?
This easy crab dip with cream cheese is one of my favorite Keto appetizers to make ahead of time to take to family gatherings, so I have a Keto-friendly option and even friends and family that are not following a Keto diet menu will love this recipe. It’s guaranteed to come home empty from any party or family get together.
If you love crab dip as much as me you can even pack this for lunches and or snacks at work.
Can you Freeze Cold Crab Dip
No, I wouldn’t suggest freezing cream cheese crab dip because it just doesn’t thaw out well. If will likely be more watery and not the same creamy texture.
What to Serve with Crab Dip
Since crab dip is mainly made with crab and cream cheese its already approved for your Keto diet menu.
But the real problem is what to serve it with since bread and crackers aren’t exactly low carb options and a Keto cracker recipe sounds like a lot of extra work!
Well, Bell peppers are the answer. Crab and cream cheese dip with bell peppers for dipping is a pretty delicious Keto friendly crab dip option that the whole family will love!
You can also try:
celery sticks
carrot sticks
cucumbers
